RATP (Paris Transport Authority) and the Fondation Cartier are partnering to present a series of artistic projects in the galerie Valois.
The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain and RATP (Paris Transport Authority) present Animals in the City, a project by the designer Andrea Branzi and the architect Stefano Boeri. The exhibition was conceived specifically for the galerie Valois, where their work engages with the alcoves of the the space.
Animals in the City presents a collaborative project, developed in three stages between 2008 and 2023, exploring how urban planning can foster a more harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.

In 2008, responding to the French government’s request for new ideas for Greater Paris,
they proposed releasing animals into the heart of the capital,
to envision a city no longer solely designed for humans.
Andrea Branzi then explained:
“the presence of free animals in an urban fabric creates a kind of stress reduction.”
Between 2014 and 2016, with architects Michele Brunello and Azzurra Muzzonigro,
Boeri extended this reflection in a workshop with their students from Politecnico di Milano (Italy),
dedicated to studying animal behavior in urban environments
and designing architectural devices for their integration into the city of Milan.
Finally, in 2023, Branzi revisited this project in a series of collages
where incongruous animal presences appear amidst familiar Parisian sites.
In a singular and humorous approach, Branzi outlines a new vision
of modernity, open to the plurality of living beings.

La Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain et la RATP présentent Animaux dans la Ville, un projet inédit des créateurs Andrea Branzi et Stefano Boeri, dans lequel leur travail dialogue avec les alcôves de la galerie Valois.
Animaux dans la Ville réunit trois étapes d’une réflexion menée sur la ville entre 2008 et 2023, explorant comment l’architecture et l’urbanisme peuvent prendre en compte et intégrer la vie des animaux qui partagent nos environnements.

En 2008, dans le cadre d’un appel à projets sur l’avenir du Grand Paris lancé par le gouvernement français, Andrea Branzi et Stefano Boeri ont élaboré une proposition radicale. Ils ont imaginé l’intégration d’animaux en liberté — notamment 50 000 vaches sacrées et 30 000 singes relâchés dans les parcs et boulevards parisiens — afin d’offrir une « hospitalité cosmique » ouverte à la biodiversité.
Milano Animal City est à la fois une exposition et un projet de recherche développé par les étudiants du Politecnico di Milano. Le Town Planning Design Workshop de l’École d’architecture, d’urbanisme et d’ingénierie de la construction (années académiques 2014–2015 et 2015–2016) a été dirigé par le professeur Stefano Boeri en collaboration avec Michele Brunello, Azzurra Muzzonigro, Francesca Benedetto, Matilde Cassani, Caterina Fumagalli, Saverio Pesapane, Ruben Garcia Rubio, Livia Shamir et Giorgio Zangrandi.
Le projet explore la ville de Milan (Italie) à travers les yeux des animaux qui y vivent et imagine de nouvelles façons pour les espèces humaines et non humaines de partager la ville.
En 2023, Animal City revisite le projet qu’Andrea Branzi avait conçu avec Stefano Boeri pour le Grand Paris en 2008. Dans une série de collages, Branzi détourne les images de Paris en y ajoutant des animaux inattendus, créant ainsi une vision surprenante des monuments et boulevards emblématiques de la ville.
À la sortie de la station, au 2, place du Palais-Royal, la Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain vous invite à prolonger la visite et à découvrir l’œuvre Gazebo d’Andrea Branzi présentée dans le cadre de l’Exposition Générale.
En partenariat avec Triennale Milano, la Fondation Cartier consacre à l’architecte et designer, disparu en 2023, une nouvelle exposition personnelle en 2026.
